The Hakuna Matata Jungle Lodge is a small hidden paradise in the Ecuador Amazon basin. A special place where nothing is mandatory and everything is possible.

In the heart of Ecuador at just 3 ½ hours from Quito, the lodge is close yet off the beaten path. It´s far away from mainstream tourist routes at a special place that invites you to dream.

If you look for exciting adventures or just want to relax on a hammock in our extended tropical garden, Hakuna Matata is the perfect backdrop for an Amazon jungle experience.

You will find an idyllic atmosphere in harmony with nature and best of all mosquito free! Here you can learn about conservation and the importance of living in harmony with nature.

Our comfortable eco cabins offer a friendly and homely environment for you to enjoy the tropical rainforest. Cabins are built of used recycled wood from already fallen trees.

Day1

It all depends on your arrival time, but we suggest you take advantage of one of our optional activities at the lodge (not included), some possibilities include: a walk into our 120 hectare private reserve, swimming in our spectacular springwater pool or dipping into the crystal clear Inchillaqui river. Guided activity options: Explore our reserve with a native guide who will point out the main medicinal plants of the Amazon, a horseback ride to explore the amazing tropical scenery or an artisan chocolate workshop (from the bean to the bar). Please let us know your preferences in advance so we can book your prefered additional activities. In the evening you will be able to enjoy a 3 course gourmet dinner.
Day2

We will have an early 5h30 am departure towards the Arajuno river. At the take out point we will board a motor canoe that will take us to the parrot clay lek. After enjoying this nature display (as in all nature based activities no guarantees are made) we will navigate to the Santa Barbara community to enjoy an encounter with the Kichwa culture and share a traditional Amazonian breakfast with the locals. We will then take a guided walk into the primary rainforest at the Jatun Sacha wilderness reserve, here we will have the possibility to discover the autochthonous flora and fauna as well as their importance to the local communities. Lunch will be served at the small port town of Misahualli, here we will have the opportunity to encounter the capuchin monkeys that live around the town. In the afternoon we return to our lodge where you can enjoy all the facilities. In the evening, we will be treated to a delicious three course dinner at our restaurant.
Day3

We start the day with a delicious breakfast. We will then head to the put out spot at the Jacunyacu river, for a day full of fun and waves. This section of the Jatunyacu is a class 3/3+ and is considered easy to moderate, a perfect mix of adventure and fun. Our river journey will be made up of 25 km (aprox. 15,5 miles) of rapids, natural pools and the amazing Amazonia scenery. No experience is required and the activities are suited for all ages, if you have not practiced white water sports before this is the perfect opportunity to get started. Throughout our journey we will find a peaceful spot to relax on the river banks and enjoy a picnic lunch. If you are traveling with smaller children or seniors, we can accommodate for their skills, we will choose a different river that is level 2 / 3 for a full day of family fun and safe for everyone. In the afternoon we return to our lodge where you can enjoy all the facilities. In the evening, we will be treated to a delicious three course dinner at our restaurant. Note: The White Water Rafting excursion is only included in our 4 day program. No previous experience is required.
Day4

As our time at Hakuna Matata Amazon Lodge comes to its end, it is still possible to take a last dip in the pool or take part in an optional homestyle chocolate making workshop.

Day2

Classic Amazoonico Tour: Jungle walk - Visit animal rescue centre (Amazoonico) - Visit native community (B/L/D). After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we will drive to the put out point at the Napo river. Here we will board a traditional motorized dugout canoe and we will navigate down river to the “Amazoonico” animal rescue center, here we will learn about this conservation project and we will be able to have close view the local wildlife: monkeys, parrots, macaws, tapir, ocelots… We will also take part in a jungle walk that will lead us through both secondary and primary rainforest where we will learn about medicinal plants, the amazing flora, insects and we will learn about the co-existence of native people and the rainforest and the importance of sustainability and conservation as well as the importance of the jungle for local cultures. At midday we will enjoy a picnic lunch by the river, and we will be invited to visit a native family, and observe how Kichwa people try to live according to their ancestral traditions while adapting to modern day life. One of the standing traditions that we can still experience is the making of Chicha, we will learn the process and if we are adventurous enough we will get to taste this traditional drink. Our full day trip will end with a visit at the local market in the city of Tena, we will observe the generosity of the land with its people in myriads of exotic products and produce that come from the forest and the river, a truly colorful experience that will give us a deeper insight of our surroundings and the amazing amazon basin as a whole. In the afternoon we return to our lodge where you can enjoy all the facilities. In the evening, we will be treated to a delicious three course dinner at our restaurant.
Day3

Day2

Amazon Adventure: Jondachi canyon hike - Explore underground caves (B/L/D). After a hearty breakfast we will head towards the Sumaco volcano wilderness reserve, here we will take part in a 2 ½ hour hike bordering the “Grand Jondachi canyon” into primary rainforest until we reach a beautiful waterfall of pristine waters. We will be rewarded with a delicious picnic lunch at an idealyc spot. We will then head to the underground cave complex, we will put on helmets, test security equipment and lamps for a journey under the rainforest. As we go through virtually unexplored caverns we will discover stalactites, stalagmites as well as bats, lightning bugs, spiders and other subterranean inhabitants. In the afternoon we return to our lodge where you can enjoy all the facilities. In the evening, we will be treated to a delicious three course dinner at our restaurant.
Day3
