YACUMA JUNGLE ECO LODGE

The Yacuma Jungle Eco lodge is an initiative jointly with the Kichwa Indigenous Community of Chontayacu and Ecuahotel.

Yacuma Eco Lodge is a unique eco touristic project, within a 270 hectare private reserve of the Amazon Rainforest basin, featuring rich and vibrant diversity not found anywhere else in the world.

The Yacuma Eco Lodge was created in 1995. The lodge will improve the economy of the host community, preserve their natrural environment, culture and heritage through Sustainable Tourism.

Twelve comfortable bungalows mixing a traditional Amazonian style, with a projection of modernity, seeking to reach the energy efficiency, comfort, and unique style of the Amazon. Constructed with metal frames, and sustainably harvested local materials, combined with modern efficiency focused elements, our 24 rooms have electricity and hot water provided by solar photovoltaic and thermal panels respectively. The water is supplied by a nearby spring, ensuring purity and closeness.

YAKU: THE SPIRIT OF WATER, (3 days).

Day1

Arrival to the capital city of the province: Tena. Transportation to Santa Rosa, where you will board a canoe, to enjoy one of the most iconic river experiences of your life to reach the lodge. (20-30 minutes river navigation). A Traditional welcome reception at the lodge will be followed by a visit to Yacuma’s exclusive “Hidden Lagoon”. Night activities can include Night walks, night river canoeing, communal fireplace. Included: Canoe Arrival Service. Guide and Escort service. Dinner, Deluxe safari style accommodations, activities in lodge.
Day2

Hidden between 275 hectares of primary rainforest jungle, activities in Yacuma are abundant and offer you the opportunity to try out any of the following: -Jungle Hikes ranging from 30 minutes to hikes of 4 hours where you visit a Yacuma Exclusive “Tutapishco” Bat Cave. On any hike, explanation of medicinal plants, local birdlife and much more will be given by your guide. -Visit to the local Kichwa community of Chontayacu, where we can appreciate their simple jungle driven lifestyle. -Shop for locally produced handicrafts and organically produced crops. -Kayaking or “Tubing” activities in the river. After dinner we will have our farewell celebration next to the common fireplace. Included: Guide and native escort service. All meals while in lodge. Day3

If the weather permits, an early rise allows visitors to explore one of the few “Colpas” or clay lick areas in the region. These unique mud structure attracts local birdlife every day by the hundreds. Alternatively we can head to the viewpoint of Yacuma to observe the jungle come alive with the sun. After breakfast we will say goodbye to our friends, and board our canoe to once again take the incredible river voyage out of Yacuma EcoLodge, and on with your Ecuadorian adventure. Included: Guide and native escort service. Breakfast in the lodge. Canoe service out of the lodge.

Day2

Exploring the ample rainforest reserve of Yacuma, can come in many ways. With over 20 km of trails throughout the jungle, a private river, a very welcoming jungle community, and much more your day will be filled with options for you to enjoy. Here are some of the many activities that you can choose to do wheile on the lodge: -Jungle Hikes ranging from 30 minutes to hikes of 4 hours where you visit a Yacuma Exclusive “Tutapishco” Bat Cave. On any hike, explanation of medicinal plants, local birdlife and much more will be given by your guide. -Visit to the local Kichwa community of Chontayacu, where we can appreciate their simple jungle driven lifestyle. -Shop for locally produced handicrafts and organically produced crops. -Kayaking or “Tubing” activities in the river. After dinner can head out to explore the area of the cabins searching for amphibians and insects, or take a small canoe to search for river reptiles that come out at night. Day3

The river that is the entryway to Yacuma Lodge is called Chontayacu, and besides providing a specially gorgeous sight during your visit, is a vital part of your experience in Yacuma. This day we will program a 3 hour jungle hike to take us upstream to where the river turns into a gorgeous waterfall. On this trip we will cross through primary and secondary jungles, and appreciate the effects of human kind as well as the gorgeous nature that surrounds Yacuma. We will come back for lunch, and after a short rest head out to practice gold panning. We have some cool activities for the afternoon such as the creation of chocolate from locally grown beans, a delicious dinner and a fun farewell celebration with local music and art. Day4

One of the oldest communities that lives in the Jungle is the Huaorani tribe. They are dispersed throughout the amazon, and have many different dialects, habits and customs. This day we will head out to visit a small Huaorani not too far away from Yacuma. The visit involves some navigation time, as well as some driving time, but ultimately visitors are gifted with the open arms of a curious and welcoming community. After a delicious dinner we will have a fun farewell celebration with local music and art. Included: Canoe Arrival Service. All meals while on the lodge. Day5
