The area around Tena and Misahualli used to be known as the first jungle destination in Ecuador. There are many jungle lodges in the area and the advantage is that you don’t have to travel very far to feel that you are in the jungle. However most of the forest is secondary rain forest (the forest has been cut and has grown again) so there is not much chance of seeing the bigger wildlife. Still the area is a very popular jungle destination because it is easy to reach and there are really nice lodges with good prices in this area.
